ABSTRACT Methods and compositions are provided for inhibiting the formation of polymers in petroleum or petrochemical processes that subsequently foul heat transfer surfaces. The compositions comprise a combination of N-Phenyl-N'-(1,3-dimethylbutyl)- p-phenylenediamine (PDA) and an organic acid. The methods comprise adding from 1 to 2500 ppm PDA and 1 to 3500 ppm organic acid to the system experiencing the fouling problem.
