PATENT ANTISEPTIC COMPOSITION CONTAINING ETHYL ALCOHOL AND MONOLAURIN ABSTRACT An aqueous liquid antiseptic composition for use in disinfecting the hands of dentists and physicians before treatment and between treatment of patients. The composition comprises 50 to 80 vol. % ethyl alcohol and 0.1 to 2.0 wt.% of monolaurin. The ethyl alcohol acts as an anti-viral and bactericidal agent and the monolaurin coacts with ethyl alcohol to provide enhanced anti-viral and bactericidal activity. The antiseptic composition is particularly aimed at providing to the dentist and physician added protection against cross-infection of recently recognized viral diseases, such as AIDS, hepatitis-B and herpes, caused by certain lipoid-enveloped viruses.
