ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A novel composition is provided herein. The com- position is composed of ginsenosides which are the saponins contained in subterranean parts of Panax species (Araliaceae), e.g., radix of Panax ginseng, the saponin substance comprising: (a) a saponin substance (ginsenoside) extracted from the sub- terranean parts of Panax species of Arabiaceae, said saponin substance comprising a mixture of plucose, and at least one of panoxadiol (C30H52O31) and panaxatriol (C30H52O4), and being a pale yellow on brown powder possessing a bitter taste, soluble in water, methanol, methanol/water and ethanol and insoluble in chloroforn, ethyl ether or carbon tetrachloride. The compo- sition also includes a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. It has been found that these compositions, containing ginsenosides possess a very potent antitumor activity.
