Abstract This invention relates to antitumor and antiviral compounds, a process of producing the compounds and a method for inhibiting tumors and viruses utilizing the compounds, and compositions containing the compounds. More particularly, the antitumor and antiviral compounds are derived from marine organisms, i.e., the marine sponge genus Mycale and are of general formula (I) Image (I) wherein R1-6 are the same or different and are a hydrogen, lower alkyl, or lower acyl; and R7-14 are the same or different and are single bonded hydrogen or hydroxy groups.
