An improved collapsible ironing board that can be stored free-standing upright in the collapsed position with ironing mat and cover in place. A special plate and support brackets below the board's central fold are fashioned to leave about a 1/2- to 3/4- inch space between the ironing faces when they are folded inwards towards one another. The brackets have a rounded notch that cradles the fold bulge in the cover and mat. In one embodiment a self-adhering carry-handle attached to the board ends secures them in the collapsed position, and rubber frame-rests ensure no-slip usage of the board on table-top or other common flat surface.
