ABSTRACT An apparatus for laser-welding a pipe (14) along its inner periphery with a probe (1) that can be introduced into the pipe (14) contains at least one imaging element (41, 65) for focussing and deflecting a laser beam (57) that is propagated within the probe (1), essentially parallel to its longitudinal axis (10); this imaging element (41, 65) generates a laser beam (59) that is deflected and focussed onto a focal point (F) that is located outside the probe (1), and its direction of propagation is oblique to the longitudinal axis (10). This reduces the thermal loading on the imaging elements (41, 65) that are arranged within the probe (1) and reduces the condensation of weld metal on the interior of the probe (1). 17
