ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Device for selectively positioning one portion of a two-color ribbon between a document-supporting platen and a print head having printing members which are selectively impacted against the desired ribbon and the document, said device comprising a color-select solenoid energized by logic circuitry activated by a print-color signal. The solenoid is energized to move to a first position to enable characters of a first color to be printed at selected positions along a line. The logic circuitry selectively omits the performance of a line feed, and delays the generation of print enable and print head movement signals for a time interval sufficient to allow for the color select solenoid to move the ribbon to the opposite color position at which time the characters of the opposite color are printed. A modification of the logic circuitry enables a dot-matrix impact printer capable of printing in both the forward and reverse directions to print a single line of intermixed characters of first and second colors in a somewhat similar fashion.
