The data transmission apparatus is operable such that a remote transmission apparatus recognizes whether or not the data transmission apparatus effects data transmission with the use of error control based upon an intermittent carrier sent from the data transmission apparatus. Additionally, the data transmission apparatus recognizes, based upon the existence of the interruption of a carrier signal sent from a remote data transmission apparatus, whether or not the remote data transmission apparatus has an error control function.
