ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE ] The invention relates to a method and apparatus that deliver a liquid chromatographic fractions sample directly into a chemical ionization mass spectrometer by utilizing a single interface unit. An evacuated single-chambered moving-belt interface unit connects the outlet of a liquid chromatograph with a conventional solid probe of the ionization chamber of a chemical ionization mass spectrometer. The interface unit comprises means for connecting the outlet of the liquid chromatograph to the interface unit. A sample originating from said liquid chromatograph outlet is deposited onto the moving belt located within an evacuated housing and is transferred to the conventional solid probe of the ionization chamber.
