An apparatus and method for automatically selecting an amount of build-out capacitance to be applied to a hybrid in a telecommunications circuit to balance or substantially balance the hybrid. The apparatus measures voltages of signals being transmitted on telecommunication lines to which the hybrid is coupled, and based on the measured voltages, automatically selects any number ofa plurality of capacitive elements to be coupled to the balance port of the hybrid as the build-out capacitance. The apparatus is further controllable to operate in a manual mode in which the capacitive elements to be coupled to the hybrid are manually selected by switches.
L'invention est constituée par un appareil et une méthode servant à sélectionner automatiquement la capacité à appliquer à un dispositif hybride dans un circuit de télécommunication pour équilibrer totalement ou quasi totalement celle de ce dispositif hybride. L'appareil de l'invention mesure les tensions des signaux transmis sur les lignes de télécommunication auxquelles le dispositif hybride est couplé et, d'après les résultats de ces mesures, sélectionne automatiquement un certain nombre d'éléments capacitifs parmi une pluralité de tels éléments pour les coupler au port d'équilibrage du dispositif hybride comme condensateurs d'équilibrage. L'appareil peut être utilisé en mode manuel; dans ce cas, les éléments capacitifs qui doivent être couplés au dispositif hybride sont sélectionnés manuellement au moyen de commutateurs.
