Apparatus for balancing a printing roller having an image producing area thereon, includes a detector for detecting any unbalance of the printing roller during rotation thereof . A computer determines weight adjustments of the printing roller that are required to correct the unbalance, in response to the detection. A laser is controlled by the computer to remove material, in response to the determination, from at least one engraveable plate mounted on the outer surface of the printing roller or from the printing roller itself, in an area outside of the image producing area, in order to balance the printing roller.

L'invention porte sur un appareil destiné à équilibrer un rouleau d'impression comprenant une zone de production d'image, lequel appareil comprend un détecteur qui permet de détecter un quelconque déséquilibre du rouleau d'impression au cours de sa rotation.En réponse à la détection, un ordinateur détermine les ajustements de poids du rouleau d'impression qui sont nécessaires pour corriger le déséquilibre. En réponse à la détermination, l'ordinateur commande un laser qui enlève du matériau d'au moins une plaque montée sur la surface extérieure du rouleau d'impression ou du rouleau d'impression lui-même, dans une zone extérieure à la zone de production d'image, afin d'équilibrer le rouleau d'impression.
