Apparatus and methods are provided for performing an in situ characterization of a tissue mass which may be normal, malignant, or benign, and, based on the measured characteristics of the tissue mass, therapeutically treating the tissue mass to cause necrosis of the tissue. In an illustrative preferred embodiment, the characterization of the tissue is accomplished by measuring an electrical property of the tissue, such as electrical impedance, while treatment is accomplished by supplying heat to the tissue to induce cauterization. A probe (20) includes a plurality of electrodes (51-56) to effect the characterization and treatment.
La présente invention concerne des appareils et des procédés permettant de réaliser in situ la caractérisation d'une masse tissulaire qui peut être normale, maligne ou bénigne, et, à partir des caractéristiques mesurées de la masse tissulaire, de pratiquer le traitement thérapeutique de la masse tissulaire de façon à provoquer la nécrose du tissu. Selon un mode de réalisation préféré particulièrement représentatif, la caractérisation du tissu consiste à mesurer une propriété électrique du tissu telle que l'impédance électrique, pendant que le traitement est effectué par transfert de la chaleur dans les tissus pour induire la cautérisation. Une sonde (20) comporte une pluralité d'électrodes (51 - 56) destinées à la conduite de la caractérisation et du traitement.
