APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CLEANING ROTATING REGENERATIVE HEAT EXCHANGERS Abstract of the Disclosure An apparatus and method for cleaning rotating regenerative heat exchangers for transferring heat from a high temperature contaminated flow of gas to a lower tem- perature clean flow of gas. Mounted upon a carriage which is adapted to be moved radially over an end surface of a storage substance are nozzles directed onto the end surface to spray a cleaning and/or flushing medium onto the storage substance. The rotor of the regenerative heat exchanger is associated with a drive which makes it possible to control drive r.p.m. and cleaning r.p.m., the latter being reduced in relation to the former. Moreover, variations in motor r.p.m. are controlled as a function of the radial position thereof in front of the end surface of the storage substance. Limit switches are provided at the ends of the radial path of travel of the said carriage for interrupting or changing the direction of the motion of the carriage.
