A coating head, and coating apparatus and methods using the coating head, for applying a solvent free coating material to a strip article advancing longitudinally in a coating line. The head includes a die (128) having a transverse slit (134) through which the coating material is deposited on the strip surface and having a land portion (160) with an extended land surface (130A) on the exit side of the slit, the die being supported for movement normal to the strip surface, and one or more air or hydraulic cylinders exerting a load on at least the land portion of the die to urge the land surface toward the strip, wherein the die is constituted of a main body and the land portion, and the land portion is so connected to the main die body (128A) as to be capable of flexing relative to the main die body in a direction normal to the strip surface but to resist flexing in the direction of strip advance in the coating line.
Tête de revêtement et appareil et procédés de revêtement fondés sur l'utilisation de ladite tête de revêtement, permettant d'appliquer une matière de revêtement exempte de solvant sur un article en bande qui avance longitudinalement sur une ligne de revêtement. Ladite tête comporte une filière (128) pourvue d'une fente transversale (134) par laquelle la matière de revêtement est déposée sur la surface de la bande et d'une partie lèvre (160) dotée d'une surface étendue (130A) située du côté sortie de la fente, la filière étant soutenue en vue d'effectuer un mouvement perpendiculaire à la surface de la bande, ainsi qu'un ou plusieurs vérins hydrauliques ou pneumatiques exerçant une charge au moins sur la partie lèvre de la filière pour pousser la surface de la lèvre vers la bande. La filière comporte un corps principal et la partie lèvre, et cette dernière est connectée au corps principal (128A) de manière telle qu'elle est capable de s'incliner par rapport à lui dans un sens perpendiculaire par rapport à la surface de la bande, mais de résister à l'inclinaison dans le sens d'avance de la bande se trouvant sur la ligne de revêtement.
