A circuit and method is provided for implementing a content addressable memory circuit (100) in which an output word is produced which corresponds to the content of a reference word containing an ATM header. According to a first aspect, a binary search logic circuit (104) binarily searches the memory array (101) to find a match word whose content is equal to that of the reference word. Output signals indicate either that a match has been found or that the binary searching of the memory array (101) should continue at addresses either above or below the location address of the match word. According to a second aspect, the content addressable memory circuit (100) performs a concurrent search of switching identifiers, virtual circuit identifiers and virtual path identifiers, to determine if a virtual path connection or virtual circuit connection exists for an ATM header.
Un circuit et sa méthode sont présentés pour réaliser un circuit de mémoire à adressage par contenu (100) où un mot de sortie est produit et correspond au contenu d'un mot de référence renfermant un en-tête ATM. Dans un premier aspect, un circuit logique de recherche binaire (104) recherche en binaire la matrice mémoire (101) pour trouver un mot concordant dont le contenu est égal au mot de référence. Les signaux de sortie indiquent soit la localisation d'une concordance ou le fait que la recherche en binaire de la matrice mémoire (101) doit se poursuivre sur les adresses supérieures ou inférieures à l'adresse de l'emplacement du mot à égaler. Dans un deuxième aspect, le circuit de mémoire à adressage par contenu (100) effectue une recherche concurrente des identificateurs de commutation, des identificateurs visuels et des indentificateurs d'itinéraires virtuels, afin de déterminer si une connexion à un itinéraire virtuel ou une connexion de circuit virtuel existe dans un en-tête ATM.
