Disclosed herein is an apparatus for controlling a sequence of operations on data, defined by an image graph represented as a directed acyclic graph of nodes, or units of data to be processed. The apparatus comprises: computation amount calculating means (41) for calculating a computation amount of each of the nodes constituting the image graph; and operation control means (42, 43) for controlling the sequence of operations by changing a positional relation of the nodes in accordance with the computation amount of each node, calculated by the computation amount calculating means (41), thereby to decrease a total computation amount of the sequence of operations defined by the image graph to a value equal to or less than a predetermined value.
