Discloses apparatus and a method for control of a computer display screen layout to provide a reserved display region and display region control. The display region control inter-operates with the computer graphical user interface operating system (GUIOS) to produce a reserved display region occupying a predetermined location of the video display. The display region control has operating system hook means operable to intercept GUIOS system calls by other applications to filter the calls to maintain the reserved display region on the computer display screen.
