ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to an apparatus for converting pictures or images into video signals. A camera (14) is pointed, together with a light source (16), by means of a mirror system (21, 22) at a projection surface (10), which may lie on the apparatus or adjacent to it. Transmitted light pictures, for examples slides, can be placed in front of the light source (16), the said pictures thus being reproduced on the projection surface (10) and being recorded from there. Instead of such projected images, it is possible to illuminate and record articles. Connecting two apparatuses with one another, each apparatus having a monitor (38), provides a universal video telephone. (Fig. 1)
