A method and system for creating very thin displays producing virtual images (301, 312) based on extremely small "pinpoint" light sources (302). In an embodiment, a pinpoint light source (301) is used in a manner analogous to a pinhole lens to magnify and view a displayed image up close. In another embodiment, an array of pinpoint light sources with or without intervening lenses is used to illuminate a spatial light modulator (304) to produce an extremely thin virtual image display.
La présente invention concerne un procédé et un système permettant de créer des écrans très minces produisant des images virtuelles (301, 312) au moyen de sources lumineuses ponctuelles "pointe d'aiguille" (302). Dans un premier mode de réalisation, une source lumineuse "pointe d'aiguille" (301) est utilisée comme objectif sténopé permettant de grossir et d'observer un agrandissement d'image d'affichage. Dans un second mode de réalisation, un réseau de sources lumineuses "pointe d'aiguille" pourvues ou non d'objectifs intermédiaires sont utilisées pour éclairer un modulateur de lumière spatiale (304), de manière à produire un affichage d'image virtuelle extrêmement mince.
