The present invention relates to system, device, and method utilizing cryosurgery to treat a tumor of the breast. More particularly, the present invention relates to treating a breast tumor by inserting into a breast, at a selected site known to be a locus of a tumor, an introducer (52) having at least one access port (59), operating a biopsy needle (61) through an access port to perform a biopsy of tissues at the selected site, and operating a cryoprobe (64) through an access port to cool body tissues to cryoablation temperatures, thereby ablating or downsizing the tumor. The present invention further relates to use of cryoablation to downsize a large malignant tumor as pre-operative preparation for conventional excision surgery.
L'invention concerne un système, un dispositif et un procédé faisant appel à la cryochirurgie pour traiter une tumeur du sein. Plus précisément, l'invention concerne le traitement d'une tumeur du sein par insertion dans le sein, en un emplacement connu pour être le locus d'une tumeur, d'un introducteur ayant au moins un port d'accès, par actionnement d'une aiguille de biopsie à travers un port d'accès pour réaliser une biopsie des tissus de l'emplacement sélectionné, et par actionnement d'une cryosonde à travers un port d'accès pour refroidir les tissus du corps aux températures de cryoablation, ce qui permet d'éliminer ou de réduire la tumeur concernée. L'invention concerne en outre le recours à la cryoablation pour réduire de grandes tumeurs malignes en préparation pré-opératoire d'une ablation classique.
