A robotic device for transferring a plurality of soft contact lenses from a first processing station to a second processing is described. The method of inspecting and packaging molded contact lenses in an automated production line is also described. The device has a first frame provided with a plurality of first contact lens carriers having concave lens holding surfaces and contact lenses to be transferred. A fluid is introduced between the surface of each of the lenses. A robotic transfer head facilitates transfer of the lens from the first processing station to the second processing station. The head has a plurality of second contact lens carriers which define a convex lens attachment surface to receive a contact lens. A fluid is introduced between the contact lens surface and convex surface. A robotic transport moves the transfer head from the first processing station to the second processing station. A degassed and deionized water is supplied to the second fluid. A second frame is also provided and has a plurality of third contact lens carriers arranged thereon to receive to contact lenses transferred thereto. A controller is provided for actuating the articulated transport and a fluid supply element to effect transfer of the lenses from the first carrier and from the second carrier.
