System for delivery of a biologically active substance into an environment. First and second chambers are separated by a moveable partition. The first chamber includes a polymer gel network which undergoes a volume change in response to an environmental condition such as pH. The first compartment includes a screen or membrane for confining the polymer gel network while allowing communication with fluid in an environment. The second compartment contains a biologically active compound or drug which is delivered to the environment through an orifice in the second compartment. Upon the occurrence of the triggering environmental condition, the polymer gel network undergoes a volume change which moves the moveable partition expelling the drug through the orifice. Drug delivery is initiated and continues only when the appropriate environmental condition or trigger is met.
Cette invention concerne un système d'administration d'une substance biologiquement active dans un milieu environnant donné. Une première et une seconde chambre sont séparées par une cloison mobile. La première chambre comprend un réseau de gel polymère dont le volume se modifie en fonction d'une condition du milieu environnant, telle que le pH. Le premier compartiment comprend un écran ou une membrane permettant de confiner le réseau de gel polymère tout assurant la communication du fluide avec un milieu environnant. Le second compartiment contient un composé ou un médicament biologiquement actif qui est administré au milieu environnant par l'intermédiaire d'un orifice situé dans ledit second compartiment. Lorsque la condition de déclenchement dans le milieu environnant est atteinte, le réseau de gel polymère est soumis à un changement de volume qui a pour effet de déplacer la cloison mobile et d'expulser le médicament à travers l'orifice. L'administration de médicament commence ou se poursuit uniquement lorsque la condition du milieu environnant ou le point de déclenchement adéquats sont atteints.
