There is disclosed apparatus and a method for extracting biomass from a liquid biomass supply, the apparatus including a hollow vessel (11) in which is established a countercurrent flow of biomass in liquid form (or including particles of biomass entrained in a liquid) and solvent. Solvent containing extracts stripped from the biomass is processed in a closed loop circuit to separate the biomass and the solvent from one another. The solvent is re- cycled for further use in the vessel (11). Depleted biomass is stripped of solvent entrained therewith by heating and condensation. The biomass residue is then suitable for use, e.g. as an animal feed.

L'invention concerne un dispositif et un proc~d~ servant ~ extraire une biomasse d'une charge de biomasse liquide. Ce dispositif est constitu~ par un r~servoir creux dans lequel on cr~e un ~coulement de biomasse ~ contre-courant sous forme liquide (ou comprenant des particules de biomasse entra¹n~es dans un liquide) auquel on ajoute un solvant. On traite le solvant contenant des extraits retir~s de la biomasse dans un circuit ferm~ afin de s~parer la biomasse et le solvant. On recycle le solvant afin de le r~utiliser dans le r~servoir (11). On extrait de la biomasse appauvrie le solvant entra¹n~ avec cette biomasse, par r~chauffement et condensation. On peut ensuite utiliser le r~sidu de biomasse en tant, par exemple, qu'aliment pour les animaux.
