Apparatus for producing a striped or variegated product comprises means for co- extruding at least two different base products into a common flow path such that the base products combine to form a layered, co-extruded product stream and a die means (10) for receiving the layered co-extruded product stream. The die means is arranged so as to divide the layered co-extruded product stream into at least two separate sub-streams of layered co-extruded product which follow a rotational path about each other and to subsequently recombine the at least two sub-streams into a single recombined product stream in which the layers are re-orientated. The die may have one or more helical screws (48, 49) mounted statically in a passage (47) through which the product steam flows. A leading edge of each screw divides the stream into sub-streams which flow along either side of the screws before being recombined at the trailing edge of the final screw. A corresponding method is also disclosed.
L~invention concerne un appareil de fabrication d~un produit rayé ou bigarré comprenant un moyen de co-extrusion d~au moins deux produits de base différents dans un trajet d~écoulement commun de telle sorte que les produits de base se combinent pour constituer un courant de produit co-extrudé en plusieurs couches et un moyen de filière (10) permettant de recevoir le courant de produit co-extrudé en plusieurs couches. Le moyen de filière est disposé pour diviser le courant de produit co-extrudé en plusieurs couches en au moins deux courants auxiliaires séparés de produit co-extrudé en plusieurs couches, suivant un trajet rotatif l~un autour de l~autre et pour ensuite recombiner les au moins deux courants auxiliaires en un simple courant de produit recombiné dans lequel les couches sont réorientées. La filière peut posséder une ou plusieurs vis hélicoïdales (48, 49) montés de manière statique dans un passage (47) à travers lequel s~écoule le courant de produit. Un bord d~attaque de chaque vis divise le courant principal en courants auxiliaires s~écoulant sur l~un ou l~autre côté des vis avant de se recombiner au niveau du bord de fuite de la vis finale. L~invention divulgue également un procédé correspondant.
