Apparatus and Method for Generating a Polar Representation of a Radio Frequency Signal Abstract of the Disclosure An apparatus and method for generating a polar representation of a radio frequency (RF) signal (37). A RF receiver (18) receives the RF signal (37) having an amplitude component and a phase component. The RF signal (37) has a power level that varies over a wide dynamic range. The power level of the RF signal (37) is controlled responsive to a control signal (at line 40) to produce a gain controlled signal (at line 41). The amplitude of the gain controlled signal (at line 41) is determined to produce a first signal (at line 42) representative of the amplitude component of the RF signal (37). The phase of the gain controlled signal (at line 41) is determined to produce a second signal (at line 43) representative of the phase component of the RF signal (37). The first (at line 42) and second (at line 43) signals are then processed to produce a processed signal (at lines 44 and 45) representative of the RF signal (37).
