An apparatus for growing anaerobic microorganisms is provided having a dish top that contains a sealing ring upon which the media surface in the dish bottom nests when the apparatus is inverted. The contact between the sealing ring and the media surface forms a seal that traps the gas in the headspace between the media surface and the inside of the dish top. An oxygen reducing agent can also be incorporated into the media together, in some instances, with a substrate which react with oxygen in the media and with oxygen in the headspace thereby creating an environment suitable for growing anaerobic, microaerophilic and facultative anaerobic microorganisms.

L'invention concerne un dispositif de culture de micro-organismes anaérobies doté d'un couvercle de boîte contenant un anneau d'étanchéité sur lequel la surface du bouillon de culture dans le fond du bac repose lorsque le dispositif est retourné. Le contact étanche entre l'anneau d'étanchéité et la surface du bouillon de culture emprisonne le gaz situé dans l'espace supérieur entre la surface du bouillon et l'intérieur du couvercle de la boîte. Un agent réducteur d'oxygène peut également être incorporé dans le bouillon, conjointement, dans certains cas, avec un substrat qui réagit avec l'oxygène dans le bouillon et avec l'oxygène dans l'espace supérieur pour créer un environnement convenant à la culture de micro-organismes anaérobies, microaérophiles et éventuellement aérobies.
