Apparatus (10) and method are provided for guiding the seam allowance of a seamed joint of a fabric (12) into alignment longitudinally with a seam sealing tape (18) applied to the seamed joint within a consolidation nip, all to effect a leakproof seal of the joint. The apparatus includes guide means (30) positioned proximate the consolidation nip, adjacent the entrance thereof, the guide means (30) having an opening (31) therein to and through which the seam allowance is passed. The opening (31) of a size sufficient to accept and guide the seam allowance passing there through. The opening (31) is preferably a slot, the open end of the slot being positioned adjacent the seamed joint and aligned with the tape as the tape and joint pass to and through the consolidation nip. The guide means optionally includes coacting shock absorbers (68).
Appareil (10) et procédé permettant de guider la réserve pour couture d'un joint cousu d'une matière textile (12) pour l'aligner longitudinalement avec un ruban d'étanchéité (18) de couture appliqué sur le joint cousu dans un espacement de consolidation, de manière à obtenir un joint étanche à l'épreuve des fuites. Ledit appareil comporte un moyen de guidage (30) placé à proximité de l'espacement de consolidation et adjacent à l'entrée dudit espacement. Le moyen de guidage (30) possède une ouverture (31) dans laquelle est introduite la réserve pour couture. Ladite ouverture (31) possède une taille suffisante pour accepter et guider la réserve pour couture introduite dans cette ouverture. L'ouverture (31) est de préférence une fente, l'extrémité ouverte de la fente étant placée adjacente au joint cousu et alignée avec le ruban à mesure que le ruban et le joint sont introduits dans l'espacement de consolidation. Le moyen de guidage possède éventuellement des amortisseurs de chocs (68) fonctionnant en coopération.
