A method and apparatus for virally inactivating a body fluid wherein a mixture including a therapeutically effective amount of methylene blue and an amount of a body fluid is formed in a container under sterile conditions and then the container is irradiated with a light field of a suitable intensity and wavelength for activating the methylene blue for a time sufficient to inactivate viruses in the mixture, while maintaining the mixture in a substantially static state within the container.

Ils consistent à placer dans un récipient stérile un mélange formé d'une quantité déterminée de liquide biologique et d'une quantité thérapeutiquement suffisante de bleu de méthylène, puis à irradier le récipient avec un champ lumineux d'intensité et de longueur d'onde appropriées, activant ainsi le bleu de méthylène pendant une durée suffisante pour inactiver les virus contenus dans le mélange, tout en maintenant le mélange contenu dans le récipient dans un état statique.
