Apparatus for use in an aqueous medium for inhibiting microbial growth in the aqueous medium comprises a pump for pumping a liquid having liquid inlet means and outlet means and, a permeable container holding biocide immobilised on a support, said permeable container being attached to said pump such that, when the apparatus is in use, liquid pumped through the pump passes through the container and contacts the immobilised biocide. The apparatus is self-contained and may be placed in a resevoir of the aqueous medium to be treated e.g. a wash water tank of photoprocessing equipment.

Un appareil pour utilisation dans un milieu aqueux pour inhiber la croissance microbienne dans un milieu aqueux comprend une pompe pour pomper un liquide munie d'un moyen permettant l'entrée et la sortie du liquide et un contenant perméable dans lequel est placé un biocide immobilisé sur un support, ledit contenant perméable étant fixé à ladite pompe de telle manière que lorsque l'appareil est utilisé, le liquide pompé par la pompe traverse le contenant et entre en contact avec le biocide immobilisé. L'appareil est autonome et peut être placé dans un réservoir contenant le milieu aqueux à traiter, p. ex. un réservoir à eau de lavage faisant partie du matériel de traitement photographique.
