A method for tracking assets within a rail yard, the method comprising: creating a track layout database for the rail yard, the track layout database providing a map of rail tracks and switches within the rail yard, wherein the track layout database includes machine readable data identifying discrete locations of the rail tracks and switches of the rail yard, each discrete location corresponding to a geographical position of a portion of a rail track or switch; associating rail yard processing steps with portions of the track layout database; receiving a geographical position signal corresponding to an asset within the rail yard; comparing the geographical position signal to the machine readable data of the track layout database in order to identify the location of the asset within the map; and presenting a graphical representation of the location of the asset on the map along with the yard process steps associated with the track section occupied by the asset, wherein the geographical position signal is received within a time period to allow the graphical presentation to be used in a management decision corresponding to the asset.
La présente invention concerne un procédé de suivi d'actifs dans un domaine ferroviaire, ce procédé consiste: à créer une base de données d'implantation de tracé pour ce domaine ferroviaire, cette base de données d'implantation de tracé fournissant une carte de tracé ferroviaire et des aiguillages dans ce domaine ferroviaire, la base de données d'implantation de tracé comprenant des données lisibles par machine identifiant des localisations discrètes de ces tracés ferroviaires et de ces aiguillages du domaine ferroviaire, chaque localisation discrète correspondant à une position géographique d'une partie d'un tracé ou d'un aiguillage ferroviaire, à associer des étapes de traitement de domaine ferroviaire avec des parties de la base de données d'implantation de tracé, à recevoir un signal de position géographique correspondant à un actif dans le domaine ferroviaire, à comparer le signal de position géographique aux données lisibles par machine de la base de données d'implantation de tracé afin d'identifier la localisation de l'actif à l'intérieur de la carte et, à présenter une représentation graphique de la localisation de l'actif sur la carte avec les étapes de traitement du domaine associé à la section de tracé occupée par l'actif, le signal de position géographique étant reçu dans un intervalle de temps permettant à la présentation graphique d'être utilisée dans une décision de gestion correspondant à l'actif.
