In a method of measuring pulse transit time of a living subject, first and second pulse wave signals are produced by sensing the pulse at first and second pulse points, respectively, the first and second pulse points being spaced from one another. The first and second pulse wave signals are differentiated, and based on the results, corresponding points of the first and second pulse wave signals are selected (e.g., points of maximum slope). The time delay between the selected points is determined, thus yielding the pulse transit time. A preferred apparatus measures pulse transit time using at least one fiberoptic pulse sensor including a fused-fiber coupling region having at least a portion that can be deflected without putting the coupling region under tension.
L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de mesurer le temps de transit d'impulsion d'un objet vivant. Pour produire un premier et un second signal d'onde d'impulsion, on détecte l'impulsion respectivement au niveau d'un premier et d'un second point espacés. On différencie le premier et le second signal d'onde d'impulsion et, en fonction des résultats, on choisit des points correspondants du premier et du second signal d'onde d'impulsion (par exemple, des points de pente maximale). On détermine le décalage de temps entre les points choisis, de façon à obtenir le temps de transit d'impulsion. De préférence, l'appareil selon l'invention mesure le temps de transit d'impulsion au moyen d'un capteur d'impulsions à fibres optiques comprenant une zone de couplage à fibres fondues pourvu d'au moins une partie pouvant infléchie sans mettre la zone de couplage sous tension.
