A waterlift silencer and method for reducing the acoustic energy of a fluid mixture of engine exhaust gas and a liquid coolant and limiting back pressure exerted by the silencer on an engine, particularly as applied to engines located below the waterline of a marine vessel. The silencer 100A-H has two or more mixture-expelling conduits (e.g. 401 or 402) through which the fluid mixture is dynamically lifted above the silencer to a point above the waterline. The first tube typically has a diameter that is equal to or smaller than the diameter of the second tube, and has an opening in its bottom portion that is further from the bottom of the holding chamber than is an opening in the bottom portion of the second tube. When the engine is started, the pressure in the holding chamber pushes the free water level of the fluid mixture down to the opening in the first tube, which may thus dynamically lift the fluid mixture out of the chamber. As the engine speed increases, the free water level reaches the opening in the second tube, so that the fluid mixture is carried out through both tubes. The first tube may be located within the second tube.
L'invention concerne un silencieux waterlift et un procédé permettant de réduire l'énergie acoustique d'un mélange fluide composé de gaz d'échappement de moteur et d'agent refroidisseur, et de limiter la contre-pression exercée par le silencieux sur un moteur, en particulier sur des moteurs situés au-dessous de la ligne de flottaison d'un bateau. Le silencieux (100A-H) comporte deux ou davantage de conduits de refoulement de mélange (p. ex. 401 or 402) par lesquels le mélange fluide est élevé dynamiquement au-dessus du silencieux, à un niveau supérieur à la ligne de flottaison. Le premier tuyau présente généralement un diamètre égal ou inférieur à celui du deuxième tuyau et comporte une ouverture, dans sa partie inférieure, qui est plus éloignée du fond de la chambre de retenue que ne l'est une ouverture de la partie inférieure du deuxième tuyau. Quand le moteur est mis en marche, la pression de la chambre de retenue pousse le niveau d'eau libre du mélange fluide vers le bas, en direction de l'ouverture du premier tuyau, ce qui permet d'élever dynamiquement le mélange fluide hors de la chambre. A mesure que la vitesse du moteur augmente, le niveau d'eau libre atteint l'ouverture du deuxième tuyau, de sorte que le mélange fluide est chassé par les deux tuyaux. Le premier tuyau peut être placé à l'intérieur du deuxième tuyau.
