A banana peeler is described, the peeler having a frame with an orifice therethrough for receiving a portion of a banana, a guard portion extending from the frame and a blade portion comprising a blade edge that is slidable along a track between an open and a cutting position, the track connected to the frame. When a portion of the banana is inserted through the orifice while the blade portion is in the open position, the blade portion can be slidably moved toward the guard portion along the track to the cutting position, the blade edge cutting through at least a layer of peel of the banana without cutting the entirety of the banana.
