ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved plating technique which is especially adapted for galvanizing one side of a strip of steel has been developed. According to the technique, an anode assembly is positioned in relatively closely spaced relation- ship with the workpiece. The assembly and workpiece are configured to establish a fluid flow path for plating fluid. The plating fluid is supplied in a quantity sufficient to maintain at least a portion of the flow path across the workpiece substantially filled at all times with flowing solution so that plating is accomplished across the entire width of the workpiece. A major advantage of the invention is that the fluid flows over only selected portions, such as one side of the workpiece. Another major advantage is that because there is a relatively high rate of flow, good ion replenishment rates are provided permitting the use of non- consumable anodes to provide the advantages in plating that are characteristic of nonconsumable anodes but overcoming the deficiencies of nonconsumables that have in the past limited their use and have resulted in waste, inefficiencies and high capital investment.
