The present invention is a polarizing process (10) involving a number of steps. The first step requires moving a flowing mixture of gas (12), the gas at least containing a polarizable nuclear species and vapor of at least one alkali metal, with a transport velocity that is not negligible when compared with the natural velocity of diffusive transport. The second step is propagating laser light in a direction (14), preferably at least partially through a polarizing cell. The next step is directing the flowing gas along a direction generally opposite to the direction of laser light propagation (16). The next step is containing the flowing gas mixture in the polarizing cell (18). The final step is immersing the polarizing cell in a magnetic field (20). These steps can be initiated in any order, although the flowing gas, the propagating laser and the magnetic field immersion must be concurrently active for polarization to occur.

L'invention concerne un procédé de polarisation (10) qui comporte les étapes consistant à déplacer un mélange de gaz (12) en circulation, ce gaz contenant au moins une espèce nucléaire polarisable et de la vapeur d'au moins un métal alcalin, selon une vitesse de transport non négligeable par comparaison avec la vitesse naturelle de transport par diffusion ; à propager de la lumière laser dans une direction (14), de préférence au moins partiellement à travers une cellule polarisante ; à diriger le gaz circulant dans une direction généralement opposée à la direction de propagation de lumière laser (16); à stocker le mélange de gaz en circulation dans la cellule polarisante (18); et finalement à immerger la cellule polarisante dans un champ magnétique (20). Ces étapes peuvent être mises en oeuvre dans n'importe quel ordre, mais le gaz en circulation, le laser de propagation et le champ magnétique doivent être actifs simultanément pour que la polarisation se produise.
