An apparatus for monitoring the polymerisation of surgical cement comprising a container for holding the surgical cement, sensing means to detect at least one environmental factor affecting surgical cement polymerisation or property of surgical cement indicating the level of polymerisation, wherein the sensing means is adapted to produce an output according to at least one environmental factor or property. The apparatus further comprises signal means to inform a user of the condition of the surgical cement according to the output of the sensing means. Suitably at least one environmental factor or property of the surgical cement is ambient temperature, ambient humidity, temperature of the surgical cement, viscosity of the surgical cement or the speed of sound through the surgical cement.
Appareil servant à surveiller la polymérisation d'un ciment chirurgical comprenant une cuve servant à contenir le ciment chirurgical, des moyens de détection pour détecter au moins un facteur du milieu environnant affectant la polymérisation du ciment chirurgical ou au moins une propriété du ciment chirurgical indiquant le niveau de polymérisation, lesdits moyens de détection étant adaptés pour produire un signal de sortie en fonction d'au moins un facteur du milieu environnant ou d'au moins une propriété. L'appareil comprend en plus des moyens de signal pour informer un utilisateur de l'état du ciment chirurgical en fonction du signal de sortie des moyens de détection. De façon appropriée l'au moins un facteur du milieu environnant ou l'au moins une propriété du ciment chirurgical est la température ambiante, l'humidité ambiante, la température du ciment chirurgical, la viscosité du ciment chirurgical ou la vitesse du son à travers le ciment chirurgical.
