A power generating method and apparatus in which a column of a fluid medium is caused to move upwardly past a spaced apart plurality of turbines in response to the displacement of water at the top of the column using compressed air. Alternatively, a fluid pump could be used in place of the compressed air to pump out the fluid at the top of the fluid medium.
