An apparatus and method for preventing free flow through an infusion set utilizes an occluder (104) disposed within the infusion set to selectively prevent flow therethrough. The occluder may be responsive to a pressure differential within the infusion set or may respond to compression of the infusion set. When a pair of occluders (504, 508) are used in sequence, an in- line pump may be formed.

L'invention concerne un appareil et un procédé permettant d'empêcher un écoulement libre dans un système de perfusion, au moyen d'un obturateur (104) disposé à l'intérieur du système de perfusion, en vue d'empêcher sélectivement un écoulement à travers celui-ci. L'obturateur peut être sensible à une différence de pression dans le système de perfusion ou encore, peut répondre à une compression dudit système. Lorsqu'on utilise une paire d'obturateurs en série (504, 508), une pompe en ligne peut être formée.
