Methods and apparatuses for temperature modification of a patient, or selected regions thereof, including an induced state of hypothermia. The temperature modification is accomplished using an in-dwelling heat exchange catheter within which a fluid heat exchange medium circulates. A heat exchange cassette is attached to the circulatory conduits of the catheter, the heat exchange cassette being sized to engage a cavity within a control unit. The control unit includes a heater/cooler device for providing heated or cooled fluid to a heat exchanger in thermal communication with the fluid heat exchange medium circulating to the heat exchange catheter, a user input device, and a processor connected to receive input from various sensors around the body and the system. A temperature control scheme for ramping the body temperature up or down without overshoot is provided.
La présente invention concerne des procédés et des dispositifs pour faire varier la température du corps d'un patient, ou de certaines parties de son corps, comprenant un état d'hypothermie induit. La variation de température est réalisée au moyen d'une sonde d'échange thermique à demeure à l'intérieur de laquelle circule un agent d'échange thermique liquide. Une cassette d'échange thermique est fixée aux conduits circulatoires de la sonde, la cassette d'échange thermique ayant une taille qui lui permet de se fixer dans une cavité à l'intérieur d'une unité de commande. L'unité de commande comprend: un dispositif de chauffage/refroidissement qui sert à fournir de l'agent chauffé ou refroidi à un échangeur thermique en communication thermique avec l'agent d'échange thermique liquide qui circule jusqu'à la sonde d'échange thermique; un dispositif d'entrée utilisateur; et un processeur connecté pour recevoir l'entrée de différents capteurs placés autour du corps et du système. L'invention a également pour objet un schéma de régulation de température qui sert à faire monter ou baisser la température du corps sans dépassement des valeurs prévues.
