An apparatus for retrieving data from a first network site for use by a second network site utilizes a template that specifies the location of the data within a response solicited from the first network site. The template is a mark-up document having a similar format to the response and thus, it is not an application program. A marker is included within the template to determine the location of the data within the response. A matching mechanism, which may be used with any template, is utilized to compare the template with the response to determine the exact location of the data within the response. The data may be retrieved when its location within the response is ascertained. Once retrieved, the data may be used by the second network site fordisplay in a format that is specified by the second network site. Accordingly, data is located within the response with a template and not with a scanning application program.
Appareil permettant d'extraire d'un premier site réseau des données destinées à un deuxième site réseau, en utilisant un modèle qui précise l'emplacement des données dans une réponse sollicitée du premier site. Le modèle est un document de marquage, de format semblable à celui de la réponse. Ce n'est donc pas un programme d'application. Un marqueur compris dans le modèle permet de déterminer l'emplacement des données dans la réponse. Un mécanisme utilisable avec n'importe quel modèle permet de comparer le modèle à la réponse afin de déterminer l'emplacement exact des données dans la réponse. Les données peuvent être extraites lorsque leur emplacement dans la réponse est bien établi. Une fois extraites, elles peuvent être utilisées par le deuxième site réseau pour affichage dans un format défini par le deuxième site réseau. Par conséquent, les données sont situées dans la réponse au moyen d'un modèle et non d'un programme d'application de balayage.
