Abstract of the Disclosure A sensor for sensing the position of a load carrying device relative to a load hook. The sensor includes a switch mounted on the hook for providing an indication of a desired position of the load carrying device. An actuation is also mounted on the hook such that it engages the switch. The actuator means is responsive to the presence of the load carrying device at the desired position to actuate the switch. The hook is connected to lifting apparatus such as a hoist or crane for lifting a load supported by the carrying device engageable with the hook.
