An electrophoresis apparatus comprising: (a) a first electrode in a first electrode zone; (b) a second electrode in a second electrode zone, the first electrode disposed relative to the second electrode so as to be adapted to generate an electric field in an electric field area therebetween upon application of an electric potential between the first and second electrodes; (c) a first membrane disposed in the electric field area; (d) a second membrane disposed between the first electrode zone and the first membrane so as to define a first interstitial volume therebetween; wherein the first interstitial volume is separated from the first and second electrode zones by the first and second membranes, and wherein at least one membrane being a barrier capable of controlling substantial bulk movement of liquid under the influence of an electric field; (e) means adapted to communicate liquid to the first electrode zone and the second electrode zone; and (f) means adapted to communicate a sample constituent to the first interstitial volume; wherein, upon application of the electric potential, liquid is caused to move from the sample constituent through at least one membrane to an adjacent electrode zone and at least one membrane prevents substantial bulk movement of liquid into the sample.
L'invention concerne un appareil d'électrophorèse comprenant: (a) une première électrode dans une première zone d'électrode, (b) une seconde électrode dans une seconde zone d'électrode, la première électrode étant placée par rapport à la seconde électrode de manière à pouvoir générer un champs électrique dans une région de champ électrique située entres lesdites zones lors de l'application d'un potentiel électrique entre les première et seconde électrode, (c) une première membrane placée dans la région de champ électrique, (d) une seconde membrane placée entre la première zone d'électrode et la première membrane de manière à définir un première volume interstitiel entre celles-ci, ce premier volume interstitiel étant séparé des première et seconde zones d'électrode par les première et seconde membranes, et au moins une membrane étant une barrière pouvant commander le mouvement de volume important d'un liquide sous l'influence d'un champ électrique (e) un moyen conçu pour amener le liquide vers la première zone d'électrode et vers la seconde zone d'électrode, et (f) un moyen conçu pour amener une composante d'échantillonnage vers le premier volume interstitiel. Selon cette invention, l'application d'un potentiel électrique provoque le déplacement du liquide de la composante d'échantillonnage à travers au moins une membrane vers une zone d'électrode adjacente et au moins une membrane empêche le mouvement de volume important du liquide dans l'échantillon.
