An apparatus for severing a wellbore tubular, which apparatus comprises a ram block having a blade for shearing the wellbore tubular, characterised in that the blade comprises a projection having a portion of gradually increasing width, wherein, in use, the blade is moveable toward the wellbore tubular whereby the projection penetrates and punctures the wall of the wellbore tubular to reduce the structural strength of the wellbore tubular in an area where the wellbore tubular is to be severed.
