An apparatus (10) for determining a desired height of a height adjustable furniture item, characterized in that it includes: a scale (12) adapted to measure a length (14) of the lower leg of a patient (16), means (18) to determine a desired height of said item of furniture from said length and a means to translate said desired height to said furniture item.
