Method and apparatus (40) for controlling stirring of molten metal (24) during processing in a metallurgical vessel (20), free of mechanical-contact with the molten metal (24). Efficiencies of metal processing and improvements in metallurgical properties are achieved by selecting configurations and placement of interacting apparatus (40), and by controlling electromagnetic field characteristics. Apparatus (40) can be retrofitted to an existing vessel and a reduction in vessel maintenance results from a decreased rate of slag buildup during usage.
L'invention porte sur un procédé et un appareil (40) de régulation du mélange du métal fondu (24) au cours du traitement s'effectuant dans un récipient métallurgique (20) qui n'est pas en contact mécanique avec le métal fondu (24). Le traitement du métal s'avère efficace et les propriétés métallurgiques meilleures lorsqu'on sélectionne les configurations et l'emplacement de l'appareil (40) d'interaction et lorsqu'on contrôle les caractéristiques du champ magnétique. L'appareil peut être installé après coup sur un récipient existant, la réduction de son entretien étant due à une formation plus lente du laitier, en utilisation.
