ABSTRACT Apparatus is provided for surface treating magnetically- attractable metal articles with a liquid composition for metal surfaces, such as a metal etchant, rinse or primer. With the apparatus, a multitude of various articles, e.g., nails, screws, clips and the like, which may be in mixture, can be easily and quickly treated in batch or continuous operation. At the heart of the apparatus, magnet means are in close proximity to applicator means, thus establishing a magnetic field acting on surface-wetted, and hence surface- treated articles. This apparatus is in cooperation with, for example, a rotational member, e.g., a drum member, housing the magnet means. Rotation of this member interrupts con- tinuing surface-treating contact as well as initially trans- ports treated articles away from the treating composition.
