An apparatus (1) for treating a material web (2) is specified, which has at least one nip (3) through which the material web (2) is guided and which is formed between a first revolving, heated surface (26) and a second revolving surface (27), it being possible for the first surface (26) to be heated to at least 120°C and both surfaces (26, 27) in the nip (3) having the same direction of movement (9) as the material web (9). It is wished to obtain a good surface quality of the material web. To this end, provision is made for a box (10) which bounds a space (11) through which the material web (2) is guided to be arranged after the nip (3) in the direction of movement (9).
