A method, system and apparatus for allowing a single network adapter to be used by a plurality of partitions of a logically partitioned computer system (LPAR) are provided. Each partition assigns a different IP address to the network adapater. The different IP addresses are stored in a table. The table cross-references each IP address with its partition. When a piece of data is received by the computer system, the data is examined to find out the IP address associated with the data. Once done, the table is consulted to determine to which one of the plurality of partitions the data is to be forwarded. The data is then forwarded to the partition.

L'invention concerne un procédé, un système et un appareil permettant à un adaptateur de réseau unique d'être utilisé par la pluralité de partitions d'un système informatique à partitions logiques (LPAR). Chaque partition attribue une adresse IP différente à l'adaptateur de réseau. Les différentes adresses IP sont stockées dans une table. Ladite table effectue des renvois entre chaque adresse IP et sa partition. Lorsqu'un élément de données est reçu par le système informatique, on recherche dans les données l'adresse IP associée à ces données. Puis, on consulte la table pour déterminer à quelle partition de la pluralité de partitions les données doivent être transmises. Les données sont ensuite transmises vers cette partition.
