A method of using a ciphering key in a mobile station (18) from a first base station (12) in a first cellular communications system controlled by a first mobile switching control (10) station to a second base station in a second, different cellular system controlled by a second mobile switching control station is described. The method comprises generating for the mobile station a cipher key for use by the mobile station during communication in the second cellular communications system. The cipher key is generated by the mobile station from a private key assigned to the mobile station for the second cellular communications system and from a random number generated by the second cellular communications system. The cipher key is then communicated to the first mobile system and a private long code is generated for use by the mobile station during communication in the first cellular communications system.
L'invention concerne un procédé d'utilisation d'une clé de chiffrement dans une station mobile (18) depuis une première station de base (12) d'un premier système de télécommunication cellulaire commandé par une première station mobile de commande de commutation (10) à une seconde station de base d'un second système cellulaire différent commandé par une seconde station mobile de commande de commutation. Ce procédé consiste à générer pour la station mobile une clé de chiffrement destinée à être utilisée par la station mobile pendant les communications effectuées dans le second système de télécommunication cellulaire. La clé de chiffrement est générée par la station mobile à partir d'une clé privée attribuée à la station mobile pour le second système de télécommunication cellulaire et à partir d'un nombre aléatoire généré par le second système de télécommunication cellulaire. La clé de chiffrement est ensuite transmise au premier système mobile et un code long privé est généré afin d'être utilisé par la station mobile pendant les communications effectuées dans le premier système de télécommunication cellulaire.
