The present invention relates to apparatus and methods for facilitating removal of obstructions from surgical cutting instruments during a surgical procedure. The apparatus of the present invention is configured to interrupt flow in aspiration tubing when obstructions are detected in the cutting instrument. The apparatus then causes compression of the aspiration tubing to flush fluid towards the cutting instrument, thereby unclogging the instrument in a fast and efficient manner without the need to remove the instrument from the surgical site.

L'invention concerne un dispositif et des procédés qui facilitent l'élimination d'obstructions formées dans des instruments chirurgicaux tranchants pendant une intervention chirurgicale. Le dispositif est conçu pour interrompre l'écoulement dans un tuyau d'aspiration si une obstruction est détectée dans l'instrument tranchant. Le dispositif comprime ensuite le tuyau d'aspiration afin de produire un brusque écoulement de fluide en direction de l'instrument tranchant, ce qui permet de déboucher l'instrument de manière rapide et efficace sans qu'il soit nécessaire de retirer l'instrument du site chirurgical.
